AU REVOIR! (part 1)

Our last day in Paris. An unscheduled day to ourselves to do just what we wished.  Take a long stroll along the Seine, sit outdoors at a cafè, sip wine, and watch the locals. Our idea of a lovely afternoon in Paris.

We opted for the Latin Quarter to while away our morning and afternoon before our 6 pm flight back to Munich.  We wanted to absorb ourselves in Paris and remember this delightful city.

We were not alone.  Parisians also felt the need to spend a leisurely Sunday soaking up the morning sun at one of the many outdoor cafès.  Once we were sated and had our fill of "people watching,"  we resumed our wander through the narrow cobblestone streets of the Latin Quarter and back along the Seine.  Here are just a few of the sights we saw.

There are over 20,000 love locks on the Ponts des Arts (Art bridge)

Hi Kristin,
The love locks are actually in danger as we speak! The town hall of Paris declared "war on amorous foreign visitors" who attach the locks to the bridges as a "sign of undying love." Once the locks are locked, the lovers throw the key into the Seine, but the city of "romance" thinks that the locks are unsightly (I love them!) There are similar sites where lovers have been attaching love locks--in Pècs, Hungary, Florence, Italy along the railings of the Ponte Vecchio, and even Mount Huang, China, where they "lock their souls together." Even in Russia on the Luyhkov bridge in downtown Moscow. Recently, the locks were removed during a secret midnight maneuver, but there were there again on Sept. 17th when I photographed them. I think it is sweet.

Joyce,
Thanks for dropping by and commenting on my photos. I love to take photos and although I am not a professional, it brings me great pleasure to share them on my blog. We enjoy cafès here in Europe. (I was told by a German here in Munich not to call them coffee houses. I guess they have a whole different connotation.) So, whenever we have the chance, we try to find a nice, cozy one to have a cuppa.
